Radiance

Radiance: A Project Built on Passion, Teamwork, and Real Craft

9 Dec 2025 Radiance

Some projects begin with passion, others with a clear spark of inspiration, and a few come from simply taking that first real step toward an idea. Many of the best creative worlds start small, growing quietly over time until they become something far bigger and more refined than expected. Radiance is one of those stories.

For those unfamiliar, Radiance is a wallpaper app built around real artists and an independent team of young, dedicated designers and developers. There are no ads, no AI-generated images, and no shortcuts. Everything is created intentionally and presented with tools that help users personalize their experience. Radiance first launched in January 2025 with version 1.0, and later went through a major redesign and expansion with the release of Radiance 2.0 on July 20, 2025. It continues to be updated with new useful features and refinements, such as Radiance Plus — a subscription that supports the independent Radiance team while unlocking extra benefits and early access to new features — a new Artists page with the option to support your favorite creators, and an optimized search tool using hashtags and more.

Introducing the First Radiance Interview

To mark this new chapter, I wanted to share a behind-the-scenes look at Radiance — how it began, why it exists, and the people who have helped shape it. For this first feature, I spoke with Asher Dipprey, the young creator who started Radiance and continues to lead its vision forward. Below is a brief and honest conversation about the journey so far and what comes next.

What’s the story behind Radiance? How did you come up with the idea?

Asher Dipprey: it all started whenever Panels launched, and I noticed a lash back that it caused and realized that there wasn’t much of an alternative. Panels wasn’t the only wallpaper app with excessive ads and pricing, it was pretty much all of them.

What do you think makes Radiance stand out in a world full of wallpapers and visuals, especially with the recent surge of AI-generated images online?

Asher Dipprey: I think the recent surge of AI generated images is amazing and represents the technological advancement. The humanity is undergoing right now, however, it’s the exact thing that makes Radiance different. The fact that there’s no AI generated wallpapers gives a users piece of mind of what they download is indeed… human.

I’ve been part of the project and have seen how the app evolved. Could you walk us through the design and development process, from Radiance 1.0 to 2.0? That major overhaul was a huge upgrade, what was it like from your perspective?

Asher Dipprey: In my perspective, jumping from 1.0 to 2.0 it was like making an entirely new app, scratch, everything in Radiance 2.0 is entirely new code, even the branding changed almost completely. My favorite part that was working with the team before it was just Morris and I but on 2.0. I got to see what happens whenever talented people have the same goal.

Let’s talk about the team the “Radiancers.” What is it like behind the scenes?

Asher Dipprey: The team is at the core of Radiance, the team IS Radiance, and everybody works together so well, so much better than I thought they ever would. It’s genuinely hard to find such a large group of people that get along so well, but this one does. And I think that’s one of the biggest reasons that we’ve been able to make Radiance so quickly, while cutting so little corners.

You’re also one of the artists behind Radiance. How would you describe your style?

Asher Dipprey: Well I do a lot of photography collections and also 3-D collections. With the photography ones I try to show as much depth in detail as possible, but with the 3-D ones I’d say my wallpapers are largely inspired by yours, and basic Apple guy. Something clean, sharp, and soft all at the same time that shows off the color in detail of whatever display it’s placed on.

Do you have a favorite Radiance collection at the moment?

Asher Dipprey: Yes! I would say Crystline is my favorite, whenever you upload new collections they tend to quickly become my favorite ones of all time and this one is no different. I love the glass, aesthetic and colors that lead your eye across the screen.

Beyond Radiance, you have a YouTube channel with growing audience and work on various 3D projects as well. With all that experience, where does Radiance stand for you personally?

Asher Dipprey: It all comes back to the team, you’re right I work on a lot of projects continuously, but Radiance is the only one that I’ve been able to build a team around that can help me manage, brainstorm, and grow the brand. Radiance is the only project I’ve done that has become its own “entity” separate from me. I feel like the Radiance brand is somehow so human without having a mascot.

What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned since starting Radiance?

Asher Dipprey: Well I was assuming, since nobody had made a free wallpaper app with no AI and no ads that it would be super hard to do…. But it’s very possible.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone starting a creative project like Radiance, what would it be?

Asher Dipprey: It all goes back to the team, find someone who can work with you well and has the same passion and goals as you that fits your project, don’t give up, if you disagree on something ask a third-party, and don’t stop until you’ve reached the goal.

Last but not least, what’s next for Radiance? Any hints for on upcoming collections or future plans?

Asher DippreyA new design language for the far future, Radiance web client for the near future.
